Annual Drainage Project

Project Overview

This year's Annual Drainage work includes new drainage pipes, landscape mitigation, manhole structure repairs and ditch maintenance.

The benefits of this project are to reduce any possible flooding and/or pipe failures in the future.

Update

  • Traffic Update:  As of Thursday April 22 thru mid May, the project contractor plans to start the replacement of the existing drainage facilities further east along Wyatt Way. Travelers are advised to use alternate routes as delays may take up to fifteen minutes on Wyatt Way from Madison to Ericksen Avenue.

The 2020 Annual Drainage repairs package, (which was moved into 2021 due to weather delays), will start construction mid-April 2021 and continue through summer.  See below areas for this proposed work:

Windsong Loop Pond
The contractor has completed the majority of the repair and maintenance work at this site. The crews are waiting on a specific material item to be delivered to make the final repairs in the next couple of weeks. Updates include replacement to the pipes entering the storm facility, structure repairs, and repair/replacement of the ditch at the pond outfall location. Additionally, work included blackberry bush removal.

Wyatt Way drainage system repairs/replacement
Separate from the existing Wyatt Way Reconstruction project, but near the same project location, the contractor for the 2020 Annual Drainage program plans to start the replacement of the existing drainage facilities further east along Wyatt Way starting mid-April.

This work will occur between Madison Avenue and Homestead Lane. This proposed Annual Drainage work will alleviate flooding of the public right of way and private property in the vicinity. The work will also include removal of a large willow tree at the eastern end of the proposed work area where the tree roots have contributed to failures of the existing drainage system. The tree is not a landmark or heritage tree, and has been reviewed and approved for removal by the City’s arborist due to its current condition and contributions to drainage issues.

Note:  The 2020 Annual Drainage work also included bid alternates which were not included due to the bid amounts came in higher than anticipated.   The alternatives included South Beach drainage pipes and landscape mitigation at the Waterfront Park storm drain and outfall.

2021 Annual Drainage Project:
2021 Annual Drainage project is currently in the design phase. The city engineers are working hard to design and select the most needed projects for construction by year end.
