Puget Sound Energy Franchise Negotiation

Project Overview

Washington State Law provides municipalities the opportunity to engage electric and other utility providers in a franchise agreement that outlines the relationship between City and provider facilities – particularly as they relate to use of the City’s rights-of-way.  The City has an active franchise agreement with Puget Sound Energy that expires in April 2022.  City staff, City Council, and a joint sub-committee of the City’s Utility Advisory Committee and the Climate Change Advisory Committee are working together to prepare an update to the franchise that would be approved prior to the expiration date.
