About Councilmember Nassar
Originally from Berkeley, Rasham relocated to Bainbridge Island in 2012 with her husband, who was born and raised on the Island and whose family first settled in the Seabold area in the late 1960's. Prior to purchasing their nearly 6-acre historic farm, Rasham and her husband completed a two-year tour of the world by bicycle.
Rasham's family farm reflects her values which emphasize a simple "back to basics" lifestyle built upon respect for the natural world. Underlying her family's modest pursuits is a desire to promote self-sufficiency and the individual's right to farm. Guiding her family's farming and property stewardship practices is the transcendent goal of sustainability. She holds this and many other values in common with the city of Bainbridge Island's Comprehensive Plan; her decision to run for city council stems from a desire to further the Island's environmental and climate change goals.
Rasham was born in San Pablo, California, to Palestinian immigrants. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of California at Berkeley in 2007. Prior to her run for local office she was employed as a certified researcher in her family's Commercial Real Estate Appraisal firm. Four months after taking her seat on the City Council Rasham welcomed her second son, born at home on the morning of April 9, 2018.
