Grant for Fleet Electrification
Yesterday, Governor Inslee and the Washington State Department of Commerce announced that over $85 million in grants were being awarded to fund the installation of nearly 5,000 new EV charging stations across the state. The City of Bainbridge Island was awarded $47,250 to support the installation of four EV charging stations for City fleet vehicles at City Hall and the Ted Spearman Justice Center. This grant award will help advance Climate Action Plan goals and fleet electrification efforts. Currently, 3% of the City fleet is electric with additional EVs planned for purchase and on order in 2024.
Grant for Housing Resources
The Washington Department of Commerce announced it is awarding the City of Bainbridge Island a $480,000 grant via the Connecting Housing to Infrastructure (CHIP) program for the Housing Resources Bainbridge Ericksen Housing Project. Staff is reviewing the administrative steps to accept the grant and the division of labor between City staff and Housing Resources Bainbridge. Acceptance of the grant is expected to come before the City Council in a few months.
Low Interest Loan for Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Washington Department of Ecology has awarded the City of Bainbridge Island a $742,000 low-interest loan via the Water Quality Program for preliminary design and permitting for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Outfall extension project. The terms of the loan are expected to be 1.2% amortized over 20 years. The award will help position the City for additional loan/grant funds for the construction phase of this project. Staff is reviewing the administrative steps to accept the low interest loan. Acceptance of this loan should be before the City Council within several months.
