The Planning Commission will hold a special meeting Thursday, June 20 to continue review of the Winslow Hotel project.
The Winslow Hotel project proposal, located at 251 Winslow Way W, includes an 87-room hotel with banquet and meeting rooms, restaurant and bar, and spa. There is a landscaped courtyard, reflecting pond and bandshell, and both under-building and surface parking totaling 136 spaces.
The project requires a major conditional use review and a major site plan review. A conditional use permit is allowed if a project can be conditioned to ensure the use is compatible with other uses in the same zone and in the vicinity of the subject property. The site plan review ensures the overall design is guided and done in a logical, safe and attractive manner.
The Planning Commission began its review of the project during the June 13 meeting. The meeting included presentations by staff and the applicant, questions from the Planning Commission, and public comment. The Planning Commission will use the June 20 meeting to continue review of the project and to receive additional public comment.
Process:
Staff began the review process with a public notice and comment period. The Design Review Board (DRB) reviewed the Winslow Hotel project proposal during five meetings, with its last review on June 3. The project proposal is now being reviewed by the Planning Commission, which will develop a recommendation. The Director of Planning and Community Development will then make a recommendation to the Hearing Examiner. The final project decision-maker is the Hearing Examiner. It is anticipated that the Hearing Examiner will review the proposal in July or August. A date for the Hearing Examiner’s public hearing has not been set.
The City Council does not have a role in the review process.
Comments submitted to date are included in the project file. Both the Planning Commission public meeting on June 20 and the Hearing Examiner's public hearing will provide opportunities for the public to provide additional comments.
