BIPD Investigating Allegation of Assault

On the afternoon of Wednesday October 17, a Sakai student reported that on Monday, October 15, just before 2:00 p.m., an unknown man approached and inappropriately touched the student while walking on a trail between Woodward Middle School and the bus barn near New Brooklyn Road. The student ran, and the man did not follow.

The student described the suspect as a white man in his early 40’s, approximately 6’4, over 200 pounds, with white or silver hair, bushy eyebrows, and a crooked nose. During the alleged incident, the student said the man was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, brown pants, and silver and blue shoes.

The student reported the incident to BISD staff who contacted the Bainbridge Island Police Department.

“Our paramount concern is the safety of our children,” said Bainbridge Island Police Chief Matt Hamner. “We are investigating this incident and have extra patrols in the area.”

There have been no other similar incidents reported on Bainbridge Island.

Anyone with information regarding this event is encouraged to call 911.
