BIPD Collection Event: Expired Flares and Fireworks

Flare & Fireworks Collection Event

As we approach the July 4th holiday and boating season, it’s a good time to get rid of expired flares and fireworks. We recognize it’s difficult to find a safe and appropriate place to discard these expired items, so the Bainbridge Island Police Department is doing a collection event July 2 -13 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. (except Saturday, Sunday and July 4). Please bring the expired items to the police station at 625 Winslow Way E.

The department will accept:

·        Highway flares

·        Marine hand-held flares

·        Marine hand-launched rocket flares

·        Marine pistol-fired flares

·        Consumer fireworks (category 1.4 only)

The department will not collect ammunition. The expired flares and fireworks are a safety hazard and contain a variety of toxic chemicals that are harmful to humans, animals and the environment. The collection event is a partnership with Bainbridge Fireworks and Eagle Harbor Yacht Club.
