BAY, BRIDGES AND BOOTLEGGERS
For a large part of the 20th century, Fletcher Bay’s south side was a destination for footloose islanders and Seattleites seeking a break from the city. Arriving often by boat, guests could stay at one of the many cabins and camping sites that dotted the woods accessed by trails and bridges. Swimming and picnicking were the day activities, while at night live orchestras and bands turned the dance hall into a roaring affair. This tour will help bring to light some of these former activities and reconstruct the locations and incarnations of the various resorts whose structures no longer exist.
Allow one and a half hours for the tour. The majority of this walk will be on paved and gravel roads.
