Groundwater Monitoring

Groundwater Monitoring

Groundwater is the sole source of drinking water on Bainbridge Island. Therefore, it’s essential to have a thorough understanding of the island’s complex aquifer system through scientific study and long-term monitoring.

At present, the city collects quarterly water level data and annual chloride measurements.

Water level data is used to help assess the quantity of water in different aquifers. Chloride data is an indicator of seawater intrusion which occurs when saltwater intrudes into fresh water supplies.
