Program overview
The City of Bainbridge Island and Kitsap Conservation District have an interlocal agreement (ILA) contract in place to provide technical assistance to agricultural properties on Bainbridge Island. This ILA is managed by the Public Works Department, Water Resources Work Group.
The two agencies share common goals to promote agriculture and water conservation, and protect water quality.
The ILA scope includes:
- Responding to referrals
- Agricultural properties (farm) inventory and risk assessments
- Develop Resource Management Plans (aka Farm Plans)
- Provide education and outreach
- Best Management Practices (BMP) design, installation, inspection and maintenance
Farms on Bainbridge island are required to establish and implement farm plans in accordance to the provisions in Bainbridge Island Municipal Code 18.09.030. Kitsap Conservation District (KCD) has the expertise and experience to provide Farm Plans to meet these requirements and to provide technical assistance on agricultural land management activities and their impacts on natural resources.
