Citywide Workplan Priorities

2022 Workplan Priorities

In 2022, the City Council and City staff have discussed a workplan that includes roughly 120 key projects and initiatives for the coming year.  These priorities represent areas of additional focus, new activities, or items of particular community significance, and often have a multi-year planning horizon. The Citywide Workplan helps the organization track progress and next steps of those tasks and initiatives, and to detect unexpected challenges or capacity issues.

2021 Workplan Priorities

In 2021, the City Council and City staff have discussed a workplan that includes roughly 125 key projects and initiatives for the coming year.  These priorities represent areas of additional focus, new activities, or items of particular community significance, and often have a multi-year planning horizon. The Citywide Workplan helps the organization track progress and next steps of those tasks and initiatives, and to detect unexpected challenges or capacity issues.

At the May18, 2021 Council meeting, staff presented an update on the projects, including those which were completed or added.  Please review the workplan and an explanatory memo for more information.

At the March 2, 2021 meeting he discussion centered on two different way to approach organizing this set of projects - by the "driver" behind why the projects are on the list and by the "category" of work the projects support. Please review the workplan and an explanatory memo for more information.

In January 2020, the City Council and City staff together identified roughly 100 key tasks and initiatives for the coming year. These priorities represent areas of additional focus, new activities, or items of particular community significance, and often have a multi-year planning horizon. Annually, the Citywide Workplan helps the organization track progress and next steps of those tasks and initiatives, and to detect unexpected challenges or capacity issues.

2019 Year-End Results (as of December 30, 2019)

Link to 2019 Year-End Results (of December 30, 2019)
In January 2019, the City Council and City staff worked together to identify 117 key tasks and initiatives for the coming year. These workplan priorities represent areas of additional focus, new activities, or particular community significance. In many cases, these items have a multi-year planning horizon, and so it is helpful to track progress and next steps, and to also identify unexpected challenges or capacity issues.

The City’s year-end workplan results are presented in two different formats:

  • Results Report By Department. This report shows year-end status for each task grouped by the City department with lead responsibility (Executive, Finance, Public Works, etc.). This format helps City staff to track status and capacity internally. This version of the report also presents metrics on key workload measures for each department.
  • Results Report By Goal. This report provides year-end status in a format where each task is sorted into a high-level “goal.” These goals are: Safety, Environment, Livability, Community, and Accountability. This perspective helps the City to share the “why” behind the work that is underway. This goal-based format may be more useful to external readers since it groups the City’s efforts according to areas of focus rather than according to responsible staff.

Status of the City’s workplan priorities are reported at year-end (as of December 31, 2019) and at mid-year (as of June 30) to help inform planning for staff focus and City budgets.

A related separate report on Comprehensive Plan Implementation also provides additional information and semi-annual reporting on the City’s Comprehensive Plan efforts.
